This is my friend Olivia:
We met about 5 years ago now when she came to my high school as an exchange student for a year. People used to think we looked like sisters. I remember when she left Australia, we said 'we'll visit each other one day'. She kept up her end of the bargain when she came back to Newcastle about 2 years ago. And now I can finally say I have been to visit Liv.
Olivia comes from the town of Basel, which is right near the German/French/Swiss border. After our travels in Austria, we had about 2 days before our flight out to Morocco. And it was a matter of great luck when we worked out we could get a direct flight from Basel to Marrakech.
Sadly we only had 1 night in Basel before we continent hopped over to Africa, but the time we had to catch up was great. Liv was an amazing host, showing us the cool spots of town, offering up her lounge room for us to sleep, making us an amazing breakfast of Swiss muesli and fresh pastries that she bought for us, and even coming with us to the airport to see us off.
It was so good to be able to see her home town after she had lived in mine for one year, and it was great to catch up and see where our lives have taken us. She is an English teacher now after finishing her masters in the UK (she has read more classic books than I think I ever will in my lifetime!) and she is soon moving to the UK again to find some work. I wish her all the luck in the world and I can't wait until the next time our paths crosss, wherever in the world that may be.
